WHY DO PEOPLE GIVE CELEBRATORY GIFTS?
For this research, we tried to ascertain what is most important to participants when they give gifts: the fact of giving, the goal towards which they are giving, or the item that they are providing.
Did you know that a 76% of people voted that the overall reason they buy celebratory gift is to contribute to the celebrant's life as this is
their own way of Showing love and support.
They stated that this is what they would most likely be recognised for.
They prefer to be recognised for a contribution towards a goal.
For weddings 55% ranked helping the couple start their new life together as important. Contrary to expectations, the act of "giving just to be given when it's my turn" was not ranked highly.
A whooping 70% of participants reported that receiving gifts at their own functions was not an important motivation for giving.
We tried to get people's opinion on wether the ability to grace an occasion or not influences their desire to give the celebrant a gift . Surprisingly, Respondents reported very little difference in terms of whether they were more likely to give gifts at events that they were sure they would be attending versus events they were sure they would be unable to attend.
In one of the participants words, " I'll give a gift regardless, it doesn't matter if I'm able to attend or not . I just want to be able to support the celebrant who I assume is someone close to me " .
Giving through gift registries
Did you know that 72% of participants agreed it's important more people use gift registries as part of their event.
Whilst 6% of participants did not agree that the use of gift registries should be increased at weddings, 22 % percent of participants were indifferent towards the use of gift registries for events .
WHAT OCCASION DO PEOPLE USE GIFT REGISTRIES THE MOST ?
Turns out a large percentage of respondents indicated 'Wedding' as that one occasion they would willingly create or use a gift registry for( No surprise there 😁).
However, we sought to know when else givers would find it appropriate to be asked to subscribe to a gift registry service .
As expected , baby showers ranked second most voted event for gift registry usage . next This is consistent with the prevalence of weddings in the responses as baby showers symbolise a new beginning much in the same way that weddings do. This might also explain why retirement was the third most voted gift registry worthy event.
We asked respondents why a gift registry would be an ideal service for them as givers. The responses were evenly spread amongst the different options.
Convenience (not having to think too much about the gift the celebrant might prefer) and avoiding duplication was ranked highest followed by the value of giving the celebrant exactly what they wanted.
Well, a fair amount of respondents were just grateful they wouldn't have to physically carry gifts to events 😂 .
