Registry Red Flags: 5 Things That Might Make Your Guests Roll Their Eyes

Setting up a gift registry is exciting; knowing you're about to see your wishlist come to life is such an exhilarating feeling, but that very excitement could make things go wrong, leaving your registry high and dry with little to no purchases.
What could possibly go wrong?
Well, lots of things could go wrong, but here are 5 common mistakes we've observed over the years that most celebrants make that have affected their registry negatively.
1. Everything is super expensive
I get it, it's not your fault you want good things (I mean, who doesn't?), and good things don't come cheap, but when your entire registry looks like it was curated for Dangote or Otedola, people might quietly walk away. Nothing for the “small budget” guests.

Not everyone can drop ₦75k on a knife set.
If your entire list feels premium-only, people might feel left out, and that’s not the vibe you want to go for.
Here's our take: mix it up. Add a few affordable items along with your luxury favorites. Balance is key.
2. It’s all decor, no essentials.
If your registry is giving “Pinterest wedding starter pack” vibes. You know, all those fancy vases, candles, wall art, abstract ornaments... but no essentials like pots, etc.; it might be a little discouraging.

Guests love knowing they contributed to something you’ll actually use—not just admire once in a while.
Don't get me wrong, decor is fine, but don’t forget the basics. A pretty home is nice, but a functional one is more relatable.
3. Adding multiple versions of the same thing:
Firstly, the whole essence of creating a registry isn't just to get what you want; it's also to help you avoid duplicate items, but too many times, we've seen celebrants include multiple versions of the same item—united by function, divided by brand.

When you add five different versions of the same thing, guests start to wonder if you’re unsure—or just secretly planning to open a store disguised as a registry😅.
So, stick to one or two options per item.
4. Stuff you don’t really want—just added for vibes
A cotton candy machine?
That fancy cocktail set you don’t even know how to use?

We’ve all been tempted by shiny things online, but if you know it’s not realistic for your lifestyle, don’t clutter your list with it. Remember, your guests are family and friends; they know you.
5. The too personal items
Let’s not make our in-laws or pastor too uncomfortable, please. 😅

You want uncle Jide to buy you vibrator ke...?
Save the lingerie, “couple kits,” and personal grooming gadgets for a private wishlist or your bestie's DMs. Your public registry should stay neutral and family-friendly 😉.
